OR
2) demonstrated reading ability at this level. Reading ability may be demonstrated by successfully completing a language proficiency test.

Proficiency tests in Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish are administered each quarter by the Literature Department.

Proficiency tests will be offered on the following dates in Humanities 1, room 303:
Thursday, November 19 at 4:00pm

Friday December 4 at 11:00am

In addition, students who are unable to take the proficiency on one of the dates listed above may contact the Literature Department to schedule an exam at another time.

Students currently enrolled in or who have passed any upper-division French, German, Greek, Italian, Latin, or Spanish literature course at UCSC do not have to take a proficiency test in order to enroll in LIT 102/Translation Theory. All students who would like to take a language proficiency test are encouraged to do so. Please contact Julie Hannah Brower (JHB@ucsc.edu; 831-459-3088) for more information and to schedule a language proficiency test.
