Graduate Advising Faculty academic advisors are assigned to first-year students. During the third quarter, students may select a different faculty advisor, usually within their area of concentration, or may stay with the faculty advisor originally assigned. Each spring quarter, students meet with their faculty advisor to review their academic progress and direction. During the coursework phase of the program, students consult with a faculty advisor to devise a study plan and develop their area of concentration. In addition, students will define their primary and secondary language literatures. When preparing for the qualifying examination, students choose an advisor within their primary area of concentration to chair their examination committee. This faculty advisor may also mentor the dissertation research and chair the dissertation reading committee. Other inquiries should be directed to: Hollie Clausnitzer Professor Sharon Kinoshita
