| How to Find Us Santa Cruz is located at the top of the Monterey Bay on the Central California coast, approximately 75 miles south of San Francisco. Getting here is easy since several major highways run to Santa Cruz, and the San Francisco, San Jose, and Monterey International Airports are all nearby. The Literature Department building is located on the east side of campus in the Humanities and Social Sciences Facility (near Cowell College). Our office is located inside the Humanities 1 building in room 303.To Santa Cruz From Southern and Central California: Take Route 101 north to Route 156 west to Route 1 north. Then follow Route 1 north to Santa Cruz. From Northern California: Take Route 5 south to Route 80 west to Route 680 south to Route 280 north. Then take Highway 17* south to Route 1 north to Santa Cruz. From San Francisco Airport: Take Route 101 south to Route 85 south to Highway 17* south to Route 1 north to Santa Cruz. From San Jose Airport: Take Route 880 south to Highway 17* south to Route 1 north to Santa Cruz. From Monterey Airport: Take Route 1 north to Santa Cruz. To Campus: Once you're in Santa Cruz on Route 1 north, follow the highway as it becomes Mission Street through town. Then turn right on Bay Street and follow it up to the main campus entrance at the intersection of Bay and High Streets. To Literature Department at Humanities and Social Sciences Facility (Humanities 1, room 303): At the main campus entrance continue straight on Coolidge Drive until you reach the intersection of Coolidge Drive and Hagar Drive. At this intersection turn left onto Hagar Drive and continue on this road until you reach McLaughlin Drive. Turn right at McLaughlin Drive and turn right again into the Humanities and Social Sciences Facility / Cowell College parking. The Literature Department office is located inside the Humanities 1 building in room 303. Airport Shuttles The local airport shuttle company is Santa Cruz Airporter, servicing San Jose and San Francisco Airports. Their number is 1-800-497-4997 or (831) 423-1214. There is no shuttle service to or from the Monterey Airport. Parking on Campus The UCSC campus is set on a hill among large redwood trees and oaks. The campus has very limited parking. There are three parking lots that serve Kresge College. All UCSC parking is by permit or meter and is strictly enforced. Parking permits are available for sale at the Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) Office at H Barn (take the main campus entrance; make your first right and another right towards the Police Department and TAPS Offices) or at the main entrance Kiosk. *Drivers should be advised that Highway 17 is a twisting four-lane highway through redwoods, over a mountain pass of 1800 feet. Although the road is well-maintained, the posted speed limit of 50 mph is often exceeded by commuters and experienced drivers, and that can be intimidating to a visitor. Please exercise caution and drive safely.
